Jacob Hong is a senior and violist from Abington, Pennsylvania. He has studied under Rachel Ku of the Philadelphia Orchestra since age 6. Jacob is a member of the Youth Chamber Orchestra division of the Center for Gifted Musicians at Temple Music Preparatory. Additionally, he has performed twice at the all-state level in the PMEA orchestra festival in 2025 and 2026. In the past, he has played in ensembles such as Philadelphia Sinfonia and the Chamber Players Orchestra of Temple Music Prep. Furthermore, he actively participates in his school’s symphonic, chamber, and pit orchestras throughout the academic year as well as the Old York Road Symphony.

 

Jacob has also had multiple opportunities to perform as a soloist, winning the 1st prize at the Charleston International Music Competition, 1st prize at the Triumph Music Festival, and silver medal at the Bösendorfer Youth Music Festival. He has also had experience performing for professional musicians such as violist Steven Tenenbom and members of the Dover and Verona quartets. Over the summers, Jacob has participated in the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, Philadelphia International Music Festival, and Csehy Summer School of Music. Additionally, he was one of the founding young musicians of the Abington String Sinfonia.
